Beyond Thankful

emmacaroline

As I got out of bed this morning at 8:56 to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade at 9 I was practically knocked over with a tidal wave of thankfulness. Proceeding to text every single important person in my life with a paragraph as to why they are important to me and in my life, I drink my fourth cup of coffee, which is one of the top things on my thankful list, which you know if you know me but at all. I am also thankful for the tradition of getting up on this chilly morning every November to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade before my brother and dad take over the living room, setting up camp to watch football the rest of the day. But back to those people I mentioned, more than anything I am thankful for the friends in my life who build me up, push me to be better, and can always be found supporting me through some of the toughest times. One of these people I can talk with  for literal hours about God, and we have, discussing the power of the Holy Spirit, how we have seen God move in our lives, and what we are expectant and excited to see Him do on our campus. Another one of these people I can talk to about absolutely nothing for hours, which we do often, as they drive my car, talk music, friends, family, and sit in comfortable silence. Comfortable silence is another thing I am thankful for this year, as a phenomenon I wouldn’t have even considered possible three years ago. But thanks to this aforementioned individual and a select handful of others, I now know that you can just sit and be, and sometimes those are the greatest moments in a friendship. I am grateful for the couple of friends I have overseas, who are so obedient to the Lord’s calling, and are such role models and incredible women in my life that I have to look up to. I am thankful for unexpected roommates, spiritual parents, co-leaders in ministry, Cru staff who are open and honest and love to talk and support, and the new friends I honestly never could have seen coming. I am thankful for the people who allow me to not only cry but SOB on their shoulders, always reminding me that there is another day to look forward to and that God is faithful. I am thankful for the friends who speak into my life, always willing to listen, and who show me what a faith filled life looks like. I am thankful for you all, beyond thankful, and cannot wait for the next year of being thankful for you in my life.
