Hi friends!
I wanted to take a moment and reintroduce myself, or just introduce myself if our worlds have never collided before! But, instead of the normal and considerably boring “this is me, I do this, I like this, and I am this,” I have decided to take a slightly different route and let you all in on a few things you may not know about me - even if we’ve known each other for twenty years ;)
#1 I’ve actually had a blog before!
Freshman year of high school I decided I wanted to start writing about my life in the in between moments of school work and babysitting.
It didn’t last very long, it wasn’t very well put together, and somewhere out there, under a name I cannot remember, is a blog with two or three extremely ungrammatical posts by fourteen year old me.
#2 I’ve been to twenty-three concerts
One Direction on the floor.
Twenty One Pilots in the pit.
Secondhand Serenade about 5 feet away.
What’s more, is this number doesn’t even begin to approach the amount of shows I’ve seen at the twenty-five or so Celtic festivals I’ve been to within the last 5 years.
Music, and especially live music, has a special kind of hold on my heart, and I predict there are many, many more shows to come!
#3 About those twenty-five Celtic Festivals,
I have traveled to four different states and five different cities for said musical gatherings.
I have camped, surrounded by Virginia mountains, for a weekend long event.
I have driven eight hours to some random little city in Pennsylvania for two days.
I have walked the streets of Downtown Dayton at least six times at the greatest Celtic festival I have found yet, and I’m not biased I swear.
#4 Reading Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter in 72 hours made me want to change my major!
For a class project requiring us to read a book considered a “necessary read” which we never had read before, I chose this classic and fell in love for the first time. And while it wasn’t the only reason I made the switch, it was a piece of the puzzle.
This old English, which causes most high schoolers pain, drew me in and wouldn’t let go. This was the first time I realized it’s the pages pushing me in the direction I want to be going - and so I made the switch, and I haven’t looked back.
I also just love reading a lot in general, so if you have any book suggestions, please send them my way!
#5 I knew at the tender of of five that I wanted to attend BGSU.
Don’t ask me how as I will not be able to provide you with a credible answer other than it was 100% Jesus.
Both my parents attended BGSU and actually met there, later becoming known as “Falcon Flames,” and placing all the pressure on me to meet mine (not really, my parents would never do that!).
Even though I took a detour after high school, taking a year off to work and learn more about the non-academic world, my falcon wings have landed successfully in Bowling Green and it has been another choice that I have yet to regret.
#6 I’ve never dated
I’ve never even been on a first date!
Friends, I’m going to go off on a bit of a tangent because this is actually a very important and interesting topic to me. I’ve had people ask me, with the greatest of intentions, why don’t I just see what’s out there, why don’t I just get some experience, or simply why?
I’ve had friends tell me there’s no shame in just going on a date and getting to know someone. I’ve had people practically spit out their drink as I spit out this fun tidbit about my life.
And friends, there absolutely is nothing wrong with dating to find the right person, there is nothing wrong with getting to know people, and there is nothing wrong with being twenty and having never been asked on a date. And I say this all because it has taken me awhile to come to terms with.
I am twenty and I rest in my God.
I am twenty and I am excited for what the future holds and I truly don’t often worry about it.
But then again, I am twenty and have never had a friendship with a male that I didn’t, at least slightly, question. I am twenty and occasionally wonder why it is that I am twenty and have never been asked on a date. But then again, again, I am twenty and have all the freedom in the world to go just about anywhere, and do just about anything, and this is a privilege I am learning more and more to embrace.
#7 I am addicted to the experience of coffee.
I am actually planning on devoting an entire future post to this fun fact, so I won’t delve in too deep. However, I will say that I do not actually drink coffee to wake up or even stay awake. I drink coffee for the routine, the ritual, and the beauty of it. And I believe every human should do the same.
#8 I do not enjoy public speaking.
If you know me this may surprise you or it may not, as I always try and force myself to do it anyways. Even up until this current semester in school I didn’t like raising my hand in class. In high school I performed a few times at coffee house fundraisers, but even that took massive amounts of courage.
However, public speaking is something I want to be able to well and do often without fear.
And so,
I force myself to raise my hand in class,
I agree to give announcements,
I sign up for poetry slams that I am in no way prepared for,
and I let my friends push me to lead worship.
#9 I have seven notebooks that I use to keep my life in order on a regular basis
- Academic Calendar
- Social Calendar
-Blog notebook/idea book
- Expense tracker
- Conference notebook
- Life Group planning notebook
- Journal
Please note that this doesn’t even include my poetry notebooks, the two journals I’m keeping for the little girls I babysit, my notebook of prayers for my future husband, and many others.
You might be able to say I like notebooks.
#10 I’m currently working on…
A book!
And that’s all I’m going to say about that one for now!
